The importance of treating about and below the elbow

Main times I have heard therapist state they only treat elbow and below. As we learn more and realize how interrelated and connected our body is, it is time to start challenging this and look at the entire upper extremity. Here are some key questions to asks yourself?

  1. Where does the affected nerve begin, travel along/through and finish? Could there be more than 1 point of impingement?
  2. Am I dealing with a strain? What fascia line does is connect to? will it create imbalances within the arm lines?
  3. If MOI is unknown, then how did the ligamentous laxity/instabily come from?
  4. What other injuries has the patient had? Important scars? Motor vehicle accidents? Concussions? These are places that create much tension and issues in the entire body, could they be affecting your patients hand?

Answer and thinking about these questions as one treats is critical to treating the root cause of most non traumatic hand injuries. Let’s begin to treat the entire limb and create root cause changes.
