What is cupping?
Cupping is an ancient technique used to heal physical ailments. Historically it has been used to treat back pain, pneumonia and draw out bad/ stale blood. Today, we use cupping to move our soft tissue and allow for more movement in our body. This can be used to treat almost all muscular and soft tissue injuries and issues.
How do you perform cupping in clinic?
Cupping can be done in numerous ways:
1. Static cupping
2. Dynamic cupping
3. Movement cupping
Each technique yields a unique result and will be tailored to your specific needs.
Does cupping hurt?
It can, but doesn’t have to. Some ways of cupping are more aggressive than others. Please discuss your comfort levels with your therapist. But, remember, short term pain when being cupped will truly lead to significant long term gain. Once the cups are removed, the pain quickly disappears.
Does cupping leave bruising?
Yes, it can. Some patients’ bruising is worse than others, some get none. We will not know until we cup! Bruising can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
